LAW SCHOOL |
|
St. Mary's University School of Law (J.D.) (1980)
I went on to law school at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio. At St. Mary’s I was able to distinguish myself academically and as a writer and editor on the law review. I was selected to be an Associate Editor and then the Executive Editor of the St. Mary’s Law Journal. I also acted as a student instructor in legal research and writing. |

University of Texas at Austin (B.A.) (1976)
I started working and fighting for the rights of ordinary consumers, while still a student at the University of Texas at Austin. I was the Co-Chair of the Texas Public Interest Research Group (TexPIRG). In the late 60’s and early 70’s, TexPIRG was one of many student/consumer advocacy organizations founded by nationally known consumer advocate Ralph Nader. At TexPIRG I had the opportunity to help people with consumer complaints and act as a public advocate for consumer issues. In this capacity, I actively lobbied in the Texas Legislature on several issues, most prominently on the issue of public utility regulation. TexPIRG helped create the Texas Public Utility Commission, regulating for the first time on a statewide level, the cost of
electric and telephone utility rates in Texas. |

PERSONAL RESPONSE |
|
A native of Kansas, I have been living and practicing law in Dallas County for over 25 years.
My professional life has been spent fighting for ordinary people against powerful interests. I’ve had the good fortune throughout my entire legal career to only represent individuals -- ordinary people who have been injured -- in their claims and lawsuits against large corporations, insurance companies and other powerful interests. It has been an interesting and successful practice, providing benefits to my individual clients and also hopefully helping to advance the rights of ordinary people and improve the quality of consumer products and health care. |
